1/24:spring intro & networking prep

Our first meeting was an opportunity for old and new members to get to know each other and preview what is to come for the Spring. We also reviewed and practiced networking skills in preparation for our Spring Networking Reception.

*Special time and location: 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Olson Atrium at Leeds School of Business

We hosted our yearly Spring Networking Reception to give WIB members an exclusive opportunity to make meaningful connections with business professionals, discover and learn about different career opportunities, and practice communicating in a professional setting. We would like to thank the professional women representatives from Charles Schwab, E&J Gallo Winery, Epsilon, EY, First Bank, KPMG, Plante Moran, Skratch Labs, and TTI, as well as our lovely members for attending! We hope all parties benefited from this unique occasion!

*We would also like to thank the CU SOAC board for helping us bring this event to life!

2/10:volunteering @habitat for humanity

We had the honor of volunteering at Habitat for Humanity in Northern Boulder! With our group of members, we got down and dirty - painting, sawing, caulking, drilling, and more! This was such a fun and positive experience, as we helped residents of Northern Boulder build their new homes and gained new friendships in the club. (Stay tuned for another chance to help out at Habitat for Humanity in April!)

2/21:skratch labs

Our first speaker of the Spring was Tina Edwards, the Marketing Director at Skratch Labs. Skratch Labs is an independently owned sports nutrition company headquartered here in Boulder, CO. Tina dove into the different work environments she's experienced throughout her 10+ years working in the marketing field, provided insight on the different roles within marketing, and discussed the different focus areas within those roles and environments.

3/6:Happiness Workshop

Meg Winter, a Marketing professor at CU, wENT into detail about the science behind happiness and well-being, utilizing content from the highly popular “Science of Wellbeing” class offered by Laurie Santos at Yale University. This included insight into the misconceptions about happiness, why our expectations are inherently bad, how to overcome biases, and the stuff that really makes us happy.

After an overview of the science behind happiness, the workshop became more interactive as she went through different strategies to improve our happiness and overall quality of life.  These included how to view goals/achievements, self-care methods, how to celebrate small wins, and how to facilitate social connection.

3/9:nuggets game OUTING & women iN sports panel

WIB attended Women in Leadership Night at the Denver Nuggets! We had the honor of attending a private panel hosted by professional women in sports who work for the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. It was great hearing about these women's experiences working in the sports entertainment industry! We also got recognized during pregame announcements and held the flag on the court doing the National Anthem! We then got to enjoy the game all together. We hope to bring this event back in years to come! Find more info about the game and panelists in the packet below.

3/20:executive board panel

Members of the WIB Executive Board will be hosting a panel to keep things light and fun going into Spring Break! This will be a great opportunity to get any questions answered regarding Women in Business, what the Executive Board does behind the scenes, majors/emphases offered in Leeds, business courses, transferring, career searches, etc. We will be open to answering anything you may want to ask! Find out more about our board members through their LinkedIn profiles that are linked in our "Exec Team" page under "Contact." Free sandwiches will be served!
